Kan-ed and the Kansas State Department of Education
are pleased to provide Kansas schools with the KSDE Formative Test
Builder, available exclusively through the Empowered Desktop by Kan-ed,
a customized online portal provided free of charge to all schools by
Kan-ed. The KSDE Formative Test Builder was made available to
every school in the state via the Empowered Desktop by Kan-ed on October
3, 2005.
KSDE Formative Test Builder allows Kansas teachers to create practice
tests for students in preparation for annual state-required reading and
math tests. KSDE Formative Test Builder draws from a large,
state-approved database to create standards-based, formative tests that
assess student mastery of specific indicators in reading and math for
grades three through high school. The KSDE Formative Test
Builder is accessible from any internet-connected computer, providing a
simple access point for teachers from any location. In
addition, the Empowered Desktop by Kan-ed provides a wealth of
educational resources on-line to support Kansas teachers in equipping
students to improve performance on state assessments.
All test items have been developed by the Kansas State Department of
Education for use by Kansas teachers. All are aligned with Kansas
curriculum standards for reading and math.
Getting Started
- Visit the Kan-ed website (www.kan-ed.org <http://www.kan-ed.org/>)
and select the Empowered Desktop by Kan-ed LOGIN
- Log in to the Empowered Desktop by Kan-ed with your
Username and Password
- If you don't already have access to the Empowered
Desktop in your school, contact LearningStation customer support to

- Locate the Assessment Tools block within the
Empowered Desktop and click KSDE Formative Test Builder to launch
the application.
KSDE Formative Test Builder will walk you
through the steps of creating your practice test.
- Print or save the test (in PDF format) and a master
answer key.
